What is a keto diet?
A ketogenic diet is a low carbohydrate, high fat, moderate protein diet. There are many variations on a ketogenic diet, a vegan ketogenic diet being one of them
The basic premise is that you’ll reduce your intake of sugar, starchy foods and grains and start burning fat for fuel. For vegans , these foods will be healthy fats, nuts, seeds, low carbohydrate vegetables and more. Check out the “What Can I Eat” article for more details.
When you make the switch to this type of diet your body will shift from burning glucose for fuel to burning fats for fuel.
This has many health advantages including weight loss, remission of diabetes type 2 and cognitive enhancement.
It has also been around for a long time, not a recent “fad”!
